The Arts | Media Net research group consists of Tim Long and Bryan Hawkins, two practicing artists and academic staff at Canterbury Christ Church University, Department of Media and Department of Art, working across two campuses in Canterbury and Broadstairs. The aim of the collaborative research is to develop innovative creativity in media and art which experiments with and makes connections between new and established creative technologies. Through the creation of online material, exhibitions, art works, performances, workshops, events etc. the research will:
- Explore cross-disciplinary creativity in media and art through the employment of new and established creative technologies.
- Develop dissemination strategies for art and media within the Department of Media.
- Promote the Department of Media through innovative use of these dissemination strategies.
- and as a result will create opportunities for teaching innovation by:
- Demonstrating good creative practice:
- Directly through the integration of research outcomes in theory/practice related programmes.
- Indirectly by their implementation and deployment online and in exhibitions.
- Providing students the opportunity to participate in the experience of research through participation in it’s development:
- Online in this ongoing website.
- At periodic research reports such as departmental research seminars.
- Through participation in workshops and events.
The research will establish collaborations between programmes, departments and sites including:

As part of their quality enhancement support for teaching and learning the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) are funding an initiative to promote developments in what is termed Teaching Informed and Enriched by Research. At Canterbury Christ Church University we have termed this the R.I.T. initiative through which Arts | Media Net research is being funded.
